I’m going to keep this brief, but I thought I would share this incredible story with you that you may or may not have heard.
Amidst the anti-Muslim rhetoric of the current US administration, “Islamists” in the second most southern state in the union opened the doors of their mosques and community centres to people devastated by the horrific flooding in Texas.
While the media focuses on “looting” of grocery stores by starving, homeless people seeking refuge and hope after their homes and lives were devastated by a catastrophic climate change-caused event (let’s not sugar coat it) in an oil-rich state actually got the help they needed from the most unlikely of sources.
Muslims in America know what it’s like to be persecuted in a country they call home and they used that resolve to help those in need.
I think I speak for everyone at the Diatribe when I say that our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this terrible storm and hopefully we get this resolved for them quickly. They deserve it. And to the people of Islamic and ALL faiths or no faith at all who stepped up without prodding and helped in this, you are my heroes.
Thank you for renewing my faith in humanity.
