First Nations Residential Schools. Truth and Reconciliation.
That’s my focus in terms of content for the next little while. That doesn’t mean I won’t have the usual stuff, but the focus in the near future will be articles written by myself and others through personal research and personal stories, which I believe is the number one social issue facing Canada and Canadians.
Until we get past this issue, we can hardly say we are the greatest country in the world. Now, I know it’s virtually impossible to completely get over some of the horrific things that were done against human beings in the past in this country, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.
That’s why The Thornycroft Diatribe is committed to the goal of assisting in reconciliation and moving forward, if possible, through several strategies, which will be explained later – and that isn’t to tell anyone what to do, but how, together, we can make a better country and work together as human beings rather than demonizing each other.
The first step is always to tell the truth. Some heinous, disgusting and inhumane crimes were committed against First Nations people in Canada and while I wasn’t alive at the time, it’s still my responsibility as a Canadian and a human being to try to make things right, regardless of how seemingly impossible the undertaking.
As far as I am aware, I have little or no Aboriginal ancestry, though as part of this exercise, I may look into my own lineage for insight and truth. If and when that happens, I will indeed freely pass on that information to you, the followers of the Thornycroft Diatribe.
When I started this website, my dream was to create something that would make a difference and take a stand for those who struggle to take a stand for themselves.
This is truly Day 1 of that. If you would like to participate in any way – perhaps tell your or your family’s story – I welcome any assistance in this endeavour.
This isn’t about me. This is about taking steps to right a wrong, and something very wrong was committed in this country against innocent people – against kids.
If you have a story to tell related to this topic or you would like to contribute, you can get in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For the sake of the kids, and the sake of all the innocent Aboriginal women in Downtown Vancouver who have been brutally murdered, this is for you.
Truth and reconciliation starts now, if I can help it.
Thank you for reading and for your consideration into this serious matter.
